About Maria's Mexican Restaurant

In our family, traditional Mexican food meant more than sustenance; it meant time spent with loved ones. It meant homemade enchiladas and fried tacos for every birthday. Tamales on Christmas. And while we enjoyed these foods throughout the year, special occasions meant they were prepared with more time, more care.

Every day, Maria’s Mexican Restaurant continues our family tradition of bringing families and friends together over meticulously authentic Mexican food.

Maria’s began as a carryout only establishment in a 7-foot wide storefront on Walnut Street in 1997. We were among the first restaurants to open downtown when the effort to revitalize the area began and our move to 406 South Avenue in 2001 gave us the privilege of sharing our family recipes with our customers in a comfortable dining room.

While our recipes have been handed down through the generations, we have amended them to suit modern diets. For example, we reduce fat in our dishes as much as possible without compromising our traditional flavor. We make many of our menu items such as sauces and chorizo from scratch. You will find the names of our grandmothers, grandfathers, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles on our menu – in honor of the celebrations we shared with family over wonderful home cooked meals.

And now, from our family to yours, we’re glad to celebrate this meal with you.
